Author Guidelines

1.1    Aims and scope of the journal

AJAL is an e-journal dedicated to Agro-ecological practices, research, innovations and trends in Sub-Saharan Africa. It aims to strengthen links between research and practice in agro-ecology and development in hitherto less developed parts of the world. Thus, AJAL is of interest to researchers, policy-makers, practitioners, government officers and other professionals involved in Agro-ecological and value-chain systems for development.

 

1.2    Types of articles accepted

      1. Agro-ecology research articles: a section, which will have solid research methodology/ research design, use an explicit, well-recognized theoretical or conceptual framework, and contribute to the evidence-base and the advancement of agro-ecological knowledge.

 

      1. Agro-ecology in Practice: a section whose articles will demonstrate progress and/or challenges in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating Agro-ecology policies and programs.

 

      1. Book Reviews: articles in this section, will offer a critical review of recently published or an upcoming book (or substantial studies, evaluations, meta-analyses, documentaries or other media) focusing on Agro-ecology.

 

1.3 Length of articles: 12000 to 15000 words

1.5    These steps to be followed by authors during paper submission.

1.5.1       Before submission: Please ensure you have read author guidelines and journal's policy for publication. The research paper should adhere to publication guidelines and standard paper layout.

      1. During submission: The corresponding author submits research paper on behalf of co-authors and handles all correspondence. The research paper should be submitted online in website for review and publication.
      1. After submission: After successful submission confirmation message is displayed with article id and email is sent to corresponding author. Please use the article id for any future communication with us.
      2. Guidelines for Suggesting Reviewer: This is an additional benefit for authors to suggest reviewer name during paper submission.
  1. Author should ensure the suggested reviewer has experience in research area of paper and the reviewer can be your colleague, friends or any other researchers. However, the reviewer should not be co-author, family members of co-authors or anyone having conflict of interest with research topic.
  2. The journal will send research paper to suggested reviewer with a link to online review form and the reviewer needs to submit review report by filling form within 3 to 4 days. This review report will only be used for internal use by editors.
  3. The reviewer name is mentioned as reviewed by in published paper to recognize contribution in publication.

1.11     Page Layout: A4 size with margins: top and bottom -2 cm, left -2.5 cm, right -1.5 cm.

 

1.12     Headsets, font sizes and Type style:

  • Title of article: Calibri – font size14 pt, bold, capital;
  • Captions for figures and titles for tables: Calibri - font size 14 pt;
  • Line spacing - 1.5.

 

1.13     Typographic matching and style:

  • Title of the article is aligned in the middle.
  • Surname and initials of authors, below - a place of work / study (in italics
  • Then annotation and keywords
  • Tables should be numbered and titled below, performed in Excel or Word without formulas – using Equation Editor in MS Excel.
  • Figures should be numbered and titled below. Figures made in Word, should be grouped in a single graphic object.
  • All illustrations should be submitted in black and white or in gradations of gray color.
  • Paragraphs – space after – 12 points
